The Repair Room turns 1!

Repair Room Celebrates 1st Birthday!

This coming Friday (24th June), we are excited to be celebrating our Repair Room’s first birthday!

It’s been a whole year of repairs and our team of dedicated volunteers have certainly seen a wide range of items to repair from toasters to bouncy castles!

Run from the Globe Eco Centre, the Repair Room is a free monthly event where people can bring their broken items for us to take a look at and try to fix.

We aim to save as many items as we can from going to landfill – saving our users money, reducing waste and carbon, and building a strong community bond.

Open for anyone to use the repair service is FREE, we only ask users to cover the cost of any replacement parts or materials as required, but the cost is always discussed up front, and any donations are gratefully received!

The Repair Room also facilitates green volunteering opportunities for those that wish to share their skills to support their community and helps foster social connections and increased confidence as well as learning additional skills for repairing items.

We are always looking for new faces to join the team so if you have a special set of repairing skills or simply looking to be involved please do get in touch with us.

It is a great community event, and we have seen demand steadily grow over the last 12 months with over 150 items coming through the repair room doors, clothing being a very popular repair item, especially broken zips!

As well as clothing, furniture, electrical items, and leather are just some of the other things we can look at. Items we have successfully fixed include:

  • Clothing (dresses shortened, zips replaced, tears patched)
  • Hoovers
  • Small furniture (Wicket chairs, side tables, dolls houses, bird feeders)
  • Small electrical items (Such as lamps, coffee machines, and kettles)
  • Small wooden items such as fixing hinges and clasps.
  • Leather straps and holdalls

There is also a pop-up café ran alongside the Repair Room, serving coffee, tea, hot chocolate and delicious cakes to enjoy whilst you wait!

Why not pop into the Globe Eco Centre this Friday 1.30 pm til 4.30 pm and bring in your broken item to be fixed and give it a new lease of life – we’d love to see you!!

The Repair Room is held on the last Friday of every month at the Globe Eco Centre, Church Street, Uttoxeter, ST14 8AG.
